MANATEE — A 71-year-old man registered sex offender was arrested on 69 counts of child pornography possession, according to Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
The charges against Edward Tobey, of Bradenton, stemmed from a prior arrest last year. During a law enforcement sting, an undercover agent with the U.S. Postal Inspections Service went online and posted numerous advertisements for sexually explicit material and requested people e-mail if they were interested in the items.
Tobey responded to the agent stating he was interested and wanted movies featuring underage girls, according to an arrest report.
Two movies were sent to Tobey in exchange for $40. A controlled delivery was made to Tobey at his RV in the 12500 block of Cortez Road on April 1, 2009.
After Tobey was arrested on two counts of child pornography possession, detectives seized his laptop computer and found numerous images of child porn, which brought about the new 69 charges filed Tuesday, said sheriff's Detective Todd Sellitto.
As of Wednesday night, Tobey remained in Manatee County Jail without bond, according to the sheriff’s office website.
