MANATEE -- A man who was stabbed last week died Sunday in the hospital, and his roommate is being charged with murder, sheriff's officials said today.
Jackie Foy, who would have been 56 today, was stabbed while sleeping Thursday night. He told authorities that when he woke with a sharp pain, his roommate was standing over him and he realized he had been stabbed.
The suspect, Jack Butler, is being charged with murder. Butler, 66, has been in the Manatee County Jail since the incident occurred.
Foy had fled to a neighbor's house after he was attacked, and the neighbor called authorities. About an hour later, the suspect was located and charged with aggravated battery. The suspect claims the knife was his and he was trying to get it away from the victim.
