A woman has accused NFL Hall of Famer and former University of Miami star wide receiver Michael Irvin of sexual battery, Fort Lauderdale police confirmed Wednesday morning.
An earlier Wednesday report by TMZ.com says a 27-year-old woman told police that Irvin drugged and raped her at the W Hotel on Fort Lauderale Beach Boulevard.
An incident report released by Fort Lauderdale police Wednesday says the crime under investigation is “sexual battery” and the weapon used “threat/intimidation.” No charges have been filed. Irvin’s attorney denied the allegations to TMZ.
Irvin, a St. Thomas Aquinas High School alumnus and one of the shapers of the University of Miami football’s flamboyant, iconoclastic image during its 1980s glory days, now works as an analyst for the NFL Network.
Despite Irvin’s admitted philandering while a Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, he’s been married to wife Sandy Harrell since 1990. One of his four children, Michael Irvin Jr., now plays for the Hurricanes.
