Mom charged with neglect
MANATEE - A 29-year-old mother was charged with child neglect after leaving her three children home alone in filth and without food, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office report.
Sunday Lee Haas, 29, of the 1300 block of 31st Avenue East, Bradenton remained in jail Wednesday on a $46,990 bond on charges including child neglect, carrying a concealed electronic weapon, resisting arrest without violence and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The children, who were ages 7, 4 and 3, are constantly left alone, according to the report when deputies interviewed neighbors.
One of the children had his face covered in blood and dirt. He was also wearing a pair of shorts that he had soiled and had since dried. The boy also had open, dirty scabs on his ankle.
Haas left the children with no food in the refrigerator and a half gallon of milk. BB guns were found laying within reach of the children and a lighter was found in one of the child's beds, according to the arrest report.
Deputies responded to the residence because someone reported the children were alone.
Haas came home after deputies had been at her residence for about 20 minutes. She told them she left to sell her car.
She resisted when deputies tried to arrest her, the report said.
