11/09 Police Briefs: 27-year-old man robbed at gunpoint

MANATEE — An armed robbery took place Sunday near 26th Street and 49th Avenue West, according to a report from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

The 27-year-old victim was confronted by four suspects. One placed a gun to the side of the victim’s head and demanded money while a second man placed a gun in his back and rifled through his pockets, deputies said. The suspects took a cellphone and cigarettes before fleeing eastbound on 40th Avenue, the report said. The victim was not injured.

Fight after soccer match ends in arrest

MANATEE — A fight broke out between two soccer teams Sunday and one player was kicked in the head and stomach and knocked unconscious for several minutes, a sheriff’s report said.

The incident occurred at 4900 53rd Ave. E., it said. Paramedics were called to treat the player who was unresponsive, He was taken to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, the report said.

His attacker, Rafael Mojica, was positively identified by witnesses and was arrested on a battery charge, police said.

Store employee kicked during shoplifting try

BRADENTON — A loss prevention employee at TJ Maxx was kicked in the leg Sunday by a woman who he had accused of shoplifting, according to a sheriff’s office report.

Two women at the TJ Maxx store at 6100 14th St. W. selected clothing worth $156.93, removed the security tags and hid the merchandise in a purse, deputies said. They then attempted to leave without paying, but were stopped by Kevin Raymond, one of the store’s loss prevention employees.

When confronted, one of the women dropped the merchandise, kicked Raymond in the leg, and then fled on foot and the other woman followed, the report said. Police could not locate them, but the incident was captured on video, the report said. All merchandise was recovered.

$3,000 in jewelry, electronics stolen

PALMETTO — A Palmetto man reported a burglary in the 3200 block of 61st Street East that involved the loss of about $3,000 worth of jewelry and electronics, $550 in cash, and a $300 single-shot rifle stolen from the master bedroom, according to a sheriff’s report.

The burglary occurred Thursday when the victim was at work, the report said.

However, a neighbor saw a vehicle in the driveway and wrote down the license tag number, the report said. Latent prints were also lifted from the home, the report stated.
