MANATEE -- The Manatee County Sheriff's Office has reported what deputies are calling a vehicle burglary trend at area church parking lots.
At about 7:50 a.m. Sunday, a parishioner reported a suspicious male in the church parking lot of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, 12905 State Road 70 E., Lakewood Ranch.
"The suspect was walking between vehicles & looking into them," a release states. "Upon arrival of MSO it was discovered that one of the vehicles had been broken into and items stolen from within."
The suspect, who was described as a 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 male in his 20s who was wearing blue jeans, a T-shirt and carrying an orange towel, was last seen running west bound through the church's parking lot toward S.R. 70 East, deputies said. He could not be located by deputies.
Later at 1:43 p.m. Sunday, deputies were dispatched to House of Fellowship at 23707 S.R. 70 E., Myakka City, for more vehicle burglaries, according to a release.
"It was found that while the church service was occurring between 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., an unknown suspect(s) had broken into five vehicles in the parking lot and stolen items from within," a release states.
No further details were provided.
