The votes are in, and the Bradenton Herald announced its Holiday Photo Contest winners on Wednesday.
First place with 644 votes and a $500 Visa gift card went to Lisa Cali, for a picture of her two children, A.J., 15, and Bella, 6, with their service dog, Pawn, 3. Cali said the picture was a spur-of-the-moment shot.
"The kids were in their Christmas pajamas and we took a picture," Cali said. "We thought it was cute."
Second place with 405 votes and a $300 Visa gift card went to Christina Petrillo Signore, whose son, Caleb, 4 months, was sleeping in Santa's arms. The sleeping shot was actually the second try with Santa, Petrillo Signore said.
"He screamed the whole time," she said. "So we gave him a bottle and he went to sleep, then we gave him back to Santa for pictures."
This year, Petrillo Signore said Caleb did fine with Santa.
Third place with 133 votes and a $200 Visa gift card went to Zachariah McIntyre, for a picture of a little girl opening up Santa's sack.
Fourth place with 74 votes and a $50 Dealsaver credit went to Sarah Moore, for two pictures of her son, Mason. One was from last year, when Mason was 7 months old, and the other with him
squirming away was from this year.
"He saw Santa (this year) and got nervous, and he tried to slide away as fast as he could," Moore said. "I wasn't expecting it at all."
Interestingly enough, Moore won second place in the contest last year for submitting Mason's photo with Santa in 2013.
There were 600 submissions and more than 44 participants in the 2014 Holiday Photo Contest.
