A funnel cloud was spotted Just before 1:30 p.m. Friday in East Manatee as strong storms hit the area.
Two 911 callers reported seeing a funnel cloud in the area of Interstate 75 and State Road 70, according to a release from Manatee County Public Safety. No tornadoes were reported touching down.
Several emergency crews notified by the Emergency Communications Center dispatch were alerted to be on the lookout but no more severe weather was spotted, according to a supervisor.
The storms in Manatee County could be producing some low-level clouds, according to Bay News 9 meteorologist Mike Clay.
Never miss a local story.
“It is not the type of storms that generally will produce a tornado,” Clay said.
Potential for a funnel cloud exists but any tornado would be weak and brief, he said.
“The biggest concern is street flooding because these storms just aren’t moving right now,” Clay said.
Storms are expected to continue on and off for the rest of Friday and into Saturday.
