A 32-year-old Palmetto man and 22-year-old Lakeland man have been charged with the strong-arm robbery of a 63-year-old Kathleen man who was fishing on the south pier of Manatee County at 11:10 p.m. Friday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim was fishing on the bridge prior to the paid section of the fishing pier when Jamar Sanders of Palmetto and Maquale Wade of Lakeland reportedly approached.
One suspect grabbed the victim from behind in a chokehold while the other rummaged through his pockets and stole his truck keys, according to the report.
The suspects fled in the victim’s truck toward Palmetto.

K9 Wolfinger located the vehicle being driven by Sanders in the area of 200 24th Street East. Sanders was detained without incident.
Wade approached shortly after on foot and matched the description of the second suspect. He refused to obey orders to back away from the truck and was arrested.
Both were identified as the suspects who committed the robbery.
A search of Sanders revealed a small amount of a controlled substance. He was charged with the possession.
Both suspects were charged with strong arm robbery and grand theft auto and taken to the Manatee County jail. Bond information was not immediately available.
