Gracie Lou has a new home.
The 13-year-old black Labrador mix will go home with her new owners at noon Friday. Gracie Lou was dropped off at the Humane Society of Manatee County on Tuesday afternoon and after reading the dog’s story in the Bradenton Herald, a senior couple came to the Bradenton shelter to meet the dog Thursday morning.
“They fell in love,” said Brenna Beightol, Humane Society of Manatee County shelter manager.
Never miss a local story.
The owner of Gracie Lou gave the dog to a stranger in the parking lot of the Lowe’s shopping center in Bradenton and the dog was brought to the Bradenton shelter with a bag of toys and a letter from the owner.
“I am sorry to leave this amazing animal with you, but I am in no position to take care of her properly. I am checking myself into a rehab,” the letter read. “You have no idea how this is affecting me.”
Gracie Lou’s new owners adopted another 13-year-old dog from the Humane Society in October 2015.
“We are very excited,” Beightol said.
