A Manatee County man was arrested early Sunday after a verbal argument turned violent in the 4100 block of 98th Ave. E.
The victim reported being grabbed by the arm, thrown on the bed and her mouth and nose covered, restricting her breathing, and causing her to gasp for breath, the shreiff’s office reported.
A man, identified as Clifton Van Luven, 65, retrieved a pistol from the bedside table and began waving it. The victim managed to get out of the residence. The sheriff’s office was called and the SWAT team responded about 1:20 a.m., the sheriff’s office reported.
Warrants were obtained for the arrest of Van Luven. The suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and domestic battery by strangulation.
