A judge ruled that Keishanna Thomas, charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 11-year-old daughter Janiya, will stand trial in Bradenton. The defense had sought a change of venue because of publicity in the case.
Devonte Shipman was threatened with jail and issued a fine over alleged jaywalking following a June 20 incident in Jacksonville, Florida. Shipman recorded his interaction with an officer, named in reports as JS Bolen, in which Bolen threatens Shipman with jail if he won’t go wait by the officer’s car. Shipman was issued with a $62.50 fine for failing to obey a pedestrian control sign. Bolen also said he would fine Shipman for failing to carry identification.

Bradenton Police responded to a home at the corner of Third Street West and 12th Avenue West Thursday afternoon where a boy suffered a gunshot wound. The boy, identified as 12-year-old Abraham Luna, later died.
Between June 9 and June 12, two unknown suspects removed multiple air conditioning units from a business complex, 13027 Linebaugh Avenue W. in Hillsborough County. Security cameras captured the suspects removing one of the AC units using a dolly.
Over the past few weeks, volunteers have seen a disturbing trend on Anna Maria Island. According to a Bay News 9 report, people have been using seaweed to circle and drawing hearts in the sand around unmarked sea turtle nests. While likely done with good intentions, officials say they are causing major problems.
