Florida Gov. Rick Scott requests disaster declaration for Sarasota tornado damage; Manatee not included
Gov. Rick Scott requested Tuesday the U.S. Small Business Administration make a physical disaster declaration for Lee and Sarasota counties, and offer loans to affected households and businesses that qualify after recent tornadoes.
Manatee County was not part of the request.
A tornado hit Duette and parts of Sarasota County late Jan. 16 and early Jan. 17, killing two, injuring four in Duette and causing an estimated $75,000 in damage in Manatee County and an estimated $4.3 million in Sarasota County.

Scott said in the request for Sarasota the tornado severely damaged or destroyed at least 24 homes and two businesses, with people suffering uninsured losses of 40 percent or more on the value of their property.
