Barrier islands lose water pressure after main break
SARASOTA -- A private contractor working Tuesday at the Vue construction site near U.S. 41 and Gulfstream Avenue ruptured a 16-inch water main that distributes water to the western portion of the city.
Water pressure is expected to remain low on Golden Gate Point, Bird Key, St. Armands Key and Lido Key at least until Saturday afternoon.
All city of Sarasota water customers have service with safe, clean drinking water.
Water pressure is lower than normal on the barrier islands. Redundancies are built into the city water distribution system to ensure the supply can continue even when a break occurs.
The private contractor is making repairs and expects to have the issue resolved by Saturday, at which time the water pressure should return to normal.
