FHP completes pedestrian safety sweep
BRADENTON -- The Florida Highway Patrol completed the first quarterly wave of Operation Pedestrian Education and Developing Safety on U.S. 41 in Manatee County at 5 p.m. Friday.
Troopers looked for pedestrian, bicycle and motorist violations at or near intersections. The purpose was to decrease the amount of injuries and deaths through education and enforcement details in areas prone to pedestrian- and bicyclist-involved crashes.
Safety information was provided to 218 pedestrians and bicyclist along with child vest reflectors and bicycle head/tail lights to those in need. Twenty-eight warnings issued for various violations

SCF to Show 'Big Hero 6' at Sarasota Film Festival
BRADENTON -- State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, Film Club will co-present the screening of the film " Big Hero 6" as part of the Sarasota Film Festival's Moonlight Movie event at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, in front of the performance pavilion at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W.
"Big Hero 6," inspired by the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name, tells the story of a young robotics prodigy who forms a superhero team to combat a masked villain. The movie from Walt Disney Animation Studios won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature on Feb. 22.
The film showing is free and open to the public. The public is invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets for comfortable viewing.
In case of rain, event will be held in Neel Performing Arts Center.
