Daredevil girls branch out
They scrambled nimbly into a spot in the huge tree; a comfortable spot that Sophie Hecker, 10, and Olivia Husnick, 11, have claimed as their own.
"Girls are more daredevils than boys," said Olivia, as Sophie nodded her agreement.
Below them was a chaotic buzz of movement, laughter and shouts as the annual Veterans Day parade finished up. But there in the sprawling limbs of the oak in Sutton Park, it was peaceful.
Never miss a local story.
They have ventured farther up the limbs of the tree, and offered to show just how far they could go, but the photographer -- a mother and grandmother -- assured them they need not prove their bravery.
"It's a little scary," said Sophie, "but that's what makes it fun."
They went on to talk of their tree-climbing feats, describing the fun they have in the trees of their own backyards.
Olivia and Sophie added to each other's vivid descriptions, eyes widening as they told their tales, voices rising in delight as they shared their stories.
Girls, daredevils, friends and trees.
"We love it," said Sophie.
