Manatee's Hunsicker wins state award
MANATEE -- Charlie Hunsicker, Manatee County Parks and Natural Resources director, has won a statewide award for upholding the Manatee County Commission's commitment to healthy beaches.
The Florida Shore and Beach Preservation Association named Hunsicker the Local Government Award winner after he spearheaded a beach renourishment project on Anna Maria Island this year and will recognize him at a conference in Bonita Springs this week.
Since 2008, Hunsicker has served on the association's board, and is on its executive committee as past chairman.
Manatee extends 27th Street East work
MANATEE -- Road work on 27th Street East from Manatee Avenue East to Ninth Avenue East has been extended one day to Saturday, according to TO: Claude Tankersley Manatee County director of public works.
The road closure is for the repair of the sanitary sewer main along 27th Street East.

HealthSouth reschedules classic car show
SARASOTA -- Heavy rains forecast for Saturday has postponed the third annual HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital Classic Car Show of a car show from Friday to 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10.
The free family friendly event will feature classic rock music played by Candy Girl of WSRZ, an onsite flu shot clinic, a raffle and grilled hot dogs and hamburgers. Proceeds raised from the raffle ticket and food sales benefit the American Heart Association.
Free booster seats at Blue Plus You movie
SARASOTA -- The Sarasota Police Department will holding a "Blue Plus You" movie night at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on the west-end grass area of the Sarasota Police Department, 2099 Adams Lane.
Bring blankets and chairs, invite neighbors and family members to watch Disney Pixar's "Cars" projected on the wall of the Sarasota Police Department.
Rain date is set for 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
BMW of Sarasota and Lamborghini of Sarasota are bringing luxury vehicles for display. The first 24 booster seat-sized children to arrive between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. will receive a free booster seat and car seat fitting courtesy of Safe Kids.

SWFWMD workshop to determine water policy
MANATEE -- The Southwest Florida Water Management District is seeking comments on the "Priority List and Schedule for the Establishment of Minimum Flows and Levels."
A workshop is slated for 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Tampa Service Office, 7601 U.S. 301 N.
The "Priority List" identifies water bodies for which the district plans to establish minimum flows and levels and reservations.
Written comments on the draft "Priority List" and schedule may be submitted to Doug Leeper, chief advisory environmental scientist with the Water Resources Bureau, via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by mail at 2379 Broad St., Brooksville FL 34604-6899 no later than Oct. 15.
