Community Day for First Responders
LAKEWOOD RANCH -- First Responders Comnmunity Day will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and run until 2 p.m. at the Evangel Baptist Church, 3605 Lorraine Road, Bradenton.
Members of the Manatee Sheriff's Office, fire department, EMS, state fish and wildlife and the division of forestry will be on hand with vehicles, exhibits and more designed to teach the community about safety methods and the people who serve them.

Former Olympian Raisman to open gymanstics venue
LAKEWOOD RANCH -- American gymnast and Olympic gold medalist Alexandra "Aly" Raisman will be in Lakewood Ranch for the grand opening of Lakewood Ranch Gymnastics, 4235 Solutions Lane, Lakewood Ranch, noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The event will feature open gym playtime and exhibitions by Lakewood Ranch team gymnasts. Pizza and dessert will be served.
Dave and Laura Parraga opened the gym in 2011.
Raisman, who will sign autographs, was captain of the gold medal-winning U.S. women's gymnastics team at the 2012 Summer Olympics, She won an individual gold medal on the floor exercises and a bronze medal on the balance beam.

Local author Kale at library Saturday
East Manatee author and illustrator Ann Stephanian Kale will be the guest author at the Braden River Library on Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Kale will be accompanied by her therapy dog, Max, who will listen to children read. Kale will be selling and autographing her books for $10, with proceeds going to children's causes. For more information, call the library at 727-6079.
