SCF Library and Learning Center plans move forward
BRADENTON -- State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota District Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting Tuesday at SCF Lakewood Ranch and voted to move forward with selecting an architect and engineering firm for the new Library and Learning Center.
The design phase is expected to begin in spring.
Board members also participated in a planning session for the 2015-2020 SCF strategic planning process, facilitated by Barry Banther, president and chief executive officer of Banther Consulting.

Darwin's on 4th chef mixes two unique Florida brews
SARASOTA -- Chef Darwin Santa Maria of Darwin's on 4th, 1525 Fourth St., Sarasota, will create two special release beers this fall with Florida breweries Cigar City Brewing and Green Bench Brewing Co.
"My goal with these collaborations is to inspire other chefs in the area to seek out local breweries and elevate the way top-tier Florida restaurants treat beer," said Santa Maria.
The first special release brew will be based on Peruvian and Amazonian ingredients and created in conjunction with Wayne Wambles, brewmaster at Cigar City Brewing in Tampa.
The second special release will be a sour beer created with Brewmaster Khristopher Johnson of Green Bench Brewing Co. in St. Pete.
The beers will be available for a limited time only at Darwin's on 4th.
East Manatee's Creekwood Dog Park improves 2 sites
MANATEE -- Closed for construction for the past month, Creekwood now has two new pavilions with picnic tables at the small and large dog park.
Other amenities include park benches, shade trees, doggie drinking fountains and waste bags.
The 2-acre area is for larger, active dogs. A smaller park is for smaller dogs.
Creekwood Park opened in 2011.
