BRADENTON -- Three men were arrested after stealing beer from a local Walmart, beating up the brother of one of the thieves and firing a gun, which led to the lockdown of two Bradenton schools.
It began about 10:50 a.m. Tuesday when Bradenton police responded to the Walmart, 5315 Cortez Road W., for a possible kidnapping.
"Witnesses had thought they saw someone being put into a car, but it was actually that they were stealing beer from Walmart," Bradenton Deputy Police Chief Warren Merriman said. "They went there with the intention of stealing beer."
Three of the four men in the car -- Jesus Trevino, Richard Wiley and Vincent Crews -- have been charged.

Police report the suspects drove to the 3300 block of 43rd Street West near Bradenton Christian School, where Trevino and the victim got out of the vehicle and fought,
witnesses told police.
Trevino went back to the car, grabbed a gun and fired it in the vehicle, police reported.
He then fled from the scene in the vehicle with Wiley and Crews leaving a bloodied victim behind on foot.
The officers who had been on the way to Walmart responded to the 3300 block of 43rd Street West after the shot was fired, where witnesses told them about the fight and shooting.
There were no reports of injuries or damage from the shooting, Merriman said. But Bradenton Christian and Manatee High School were placed on lockdown as a precaution.
The lockdowns -- at Bradenton Christian School, 3304 43rd St. W., and Manatee High School, 902 33rd St. Court W. -- were in effect from about 11 a.m. to 11:40 a.m., police said.
The bloodied victim from the fight was found walking by an officer along the 2500 block of 43rd Street West, police said.
Other officers spotted the suspects' vehicle in the 1700 block of 43rd Street West, and made a felony traffic stop in the 1200 block of 40th Street West, where the three occupants were arrested, according to police. Officers also found a revolver with one missing round, Merriman said.
Trevino is charged with domestic battery and discharging a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school.
Wiley is charged with retail theft and Crews is charged with violation of probation.
The victim was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital and is not facing charges.
All three suspects have criminal histories.
Trevino's history includes convictions for possession of a concealed firearm and violation of probation.
Wiley's history includes convictions for burglary of an unoccupied structure and grand theft.
Crews' history includes convictions for petty theft, two charges of resisting arrest and criminal mischief. He is on probation for one charge of resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
