MANATEE -- A Bradenton man is facing capital sexual battery charges after investigators say he molested a child on at least two occasions, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Curtis Ray Meredith, 37, was arrested Thursday morning and charged with two counts of capital sexual battery, according to an arrest report.
He is being held at the Manatee County jail without bond.
The victim, whose age was not released by authorities, and Meredith knew one another.
The disclosure that Meredith had inappropriately touched the victim was made to the victim's mother by the victim on June 3. On June 10, a forensic interview was conducted with the victim, the report said.
Investigators met with Meredith Wednesday. During the about 90-minute-long interview, Meredith denied touching the victim inappropriately, the report said. He did admit to accidently doing so when giving the child a bath when his hand would slip because of the washcloth.
About 60 to 70 minutes in, after investigators pressured Meredith, he admitted to having inappropriately touched the child on two separate occasions but not while bathing the child.
Meredith has a past arrest history for sexual crimes against children.
On Aug. 22, 2006, Meredith was arrested and charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor, according to an arrest report.
In that case, investigators say Meredith admitted to dating, living with and having sex with a then-17-year-old girl. At the time, Meredith was 29.
"Meredith knew it was wrong to be with (her) but stated he loved her," the report states.
On Sept. 8, 2006, the State Attorney's Office declined to prosecute the case.
