SARASOTA -- The Sarasota Police Department rescued a baby duck from a pile of muck by a drain Thursday morning, according to a release.
Around 11 a.m. Officer Juan Sanchez found the duck near the intersection of Pompano Avenue and Ringling Boulevard stuck in a pile of muck by a drain that was covered in mud, having trouble breathing and in distress.
Sanchez cleared the duck's airways and took him to Save Our Seabirds at 1708 Ken Thompson Parkway in Sarasota, who named the duck Freddy.
“This is a great reminder for public to remember that we handle all birds, not just seabirds. If you come in contact with any injured bird, please give us a call,” said Benjamin Moore, Controller, Save Our Seabirds.
Freddy is doing well, according to the release.
