BRADENTON — The Bradenton Police Department and West Bradenton Crime Watch were co-recipients of the “Operation Cooperation Award” July 1 at the Florida Police Chiefs Association 62nd annual Summer Training Conference in Boca Raton.
BPD Chief of Police Michael Radzilowski and Tami Spyker, president of the West Bradenton Crime Watch, received the award based upon the Safe Kids Fair of 2013.
The award recognizes outstanding community policing initiatives and partnerships between the police department and private organizations.
The Safe Kids Fair provided safety education to more than 350 children and 150 families in Bradenton. Free bicycle helmets and certified bike helmet fitters were provided by a University of Florida grant.
The Westminster Presbyterian Church opened 11 acres for the event involving 32 civic groups, 50 companies and 65 volunteers who gave more than 900 hours of service.
The second annual Safe Kids Fair will be held Oct. 11 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3011 19th Ave. W., Bradenton.
The free event is open to all children.
