TALLAHASSEE — Two Bradenton officers were among the 95 new Florida Highway Patrol troopers who graduated Thursday from FHP’s Training Academy, marking the first time in the patrol’s 75-year history two recruit classes trained and graduated simultaneously.
The graduates push the FHP roster to at least 1,895 troopers, said Col. David Brierton, director of the Florida Highway Patrol.
Members of the 126th and 127th basic recruit classes went through 23 weeks of intense physical training and academic study covering topics such as human relations, law, firearms, defensive tactics, vehicle operations and first aid. Recruits also participated in several community service activities, including blood drives and volunteering to help those living with developmental disabilities.
Area FHP grads include Riccardo Aime and Jason Bottoms of Bradenton, Joseph Angelicchi of Sarasota County and Ryan Dalton and Margarita Sanchez of Arcadia.
