So much has come from the dispute over Long Bar Pointe. Unfortunately for Mr. Carlos Beruff and Mr. Larry Lieberman, I don't think they anticipated (a) the magnitude and size of the conflict and (b) the power of social media. In fact, Mr. Beruff said himself that he would hire a marketing team next time.
That said, what about the larger picture? Is now maybe the time that this county's elected politicians begin worrying about their political careers?
In a town the size of ours, social media can and will balance the scales against candidates receiving large amounts of "contributions." I wholeheartedly believe that even I could give any one of the commissioners a run for their money with a fourth of the budget. In fact, Michael Gallen is a great example of doing the right thing and coming out on top (and deservingly so).
We do not ask a ton of the people we've elected to be our voice. Personally, I don't care what side of the aisle you find yourself on (Democrat-Republican-independent). What I do care about is what kind of future are you setting up for my family, friends and this community as a whole.
Never miss a local story.
My advice to the commissioners (especially Larry Bustle, Betsy Benac and Vanessa Baugh), say what you mean and mean what you say because the tides are changing. The community of Manatee County is no longer sitting in idle.
