MANATEE -- Scattered showers and thunderstorms were hitting the Manatee-Sarasota area early Tuesday afternoon.
At 11:54 a.m., the the heaviest activity was over southern Manatee County near Lakewood Ranch, according to the National Weather Service.
"Activity is moving slowly toward the southwest," the Weather Service said. "Gusty winds, dangerous lightning and minor flooding may occur in and near these showers and storms."
The Weather Service advised motorists to be aware of ponded water on roadways, particular along Interstate 75 between mile markers 195 in Venice and 224 in Ellenton.
