Regarding Long Bar Pointe, the developer wants to commit the environmental equivalent of a physical assault, one that would undo decades of progress and tens of millions of dollars restoring Sarasota and Tampa bays to their current state.
Does he think Florida is such a backward state and our county commissioners such buffoons that they will actually allow this? Or is he hoping to use this ridiculous tactic to attain some changes?
He doesn't deserve any changes; he bought the property in 2008 with full knowledge of its zoning.
In fact, if commissioners were the long-term leaders this county and state really need, they'd step up and begin eminent domain proceedings. We need to protect the remaining coast; that's their job No. 1.
Without it, the area will suffer environmentally and economically. Why travel or invest here if it's just another concrete wasteland like the southeastern Florida coast?
