BRADENTON -- City officials have closed the splash park at the Bradenton Riverwalk because of high winds stirred by Hurricane Sandy.
"The winds were blowing the spray onto sidewalks and the playground," public works director Claude D. Tankersley wrote in an e-mail. "The winds were blowing the spray onto sidewalks and the playground. We will monitor the winds through the weekend and will turn the splash park back on when the winds have subsided."
Officials have placed a sign at the splash park stating it is closed for maintenance.
"We will create a new sign that will say, 'Splash park closed due to high winds,' for future use as we are sure this will happen every now and then," Tankersley wrote. "However, the splash park is not down due to maintenance at this time.
Never miss a local story.
"We just didn't have the right sign!"
