The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash on Interstate 75 in Hillsborough County early Saturday morning in which a drunken driver was going the wrong-way, authorities said.
The crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-75, south of Gibsonton Drive, about 4 a.m.
Troopers said Rogelio Ramirez, 29, of Lakeland, was traveling in a 2015 Hyundai Accent northbound in the southbound lanes of I-75 and collided with the rear passenger side of a semi tractor-trailer. The driver of the semi, a Brandon man, was not injured.
Ramirez was heavily impaired, troopers said, and he was taken to Tampa General Hospital in serious condition.
According to the report, charges are pending.
