A 39-year-old bicyclist from Osprey is being treated for serious injuries after his brakes failed to stop him from being hit by a car Thursday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Around 10:26 a.m., a 2005 Toyota Camry driven by a 59-year-old Sarasota man was headed southbound in the left lane of U.S. 41 just before the intersection at 602 S. Tamiami Trail. The bicyclist was turning left from the northbound left turn lane of U.S. 41 when, as he told FHP, his brakes didn’t work and he couldn’t stop.
The front of the Sarasota man’s car collided with the right side of the bicyclist.
According to FHP, the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet and was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
No charges have been filed.
