UNIVERSITY PARK -- A men's fine accessories retailer is headed to The Mall at University Town Center and is bringing with it a selection of bourbon-scented candles, sleek briefcases and earthy shave balms.
Estero-based Refinery will move into the mall in early March after it finishes construction on a spot in the lower level of the mall near Saks Fifth Avenue. The Mall at UTC store will be Refinery's second location after the flagship store located in Coconut Point mall. The chain is also considering a Naples store.
Refinery prides itself on American-made products and filling a niche market for men's gifts. According to Scott Denett, general manager of Refinery in Estero, 40 percent of the store's customers are women looking for men's gifts.
Refinery's move into the mall comes after Edward Beiner closed at the end of January. Edward Beiner is one of six retailers who moved out of the Mall at UTC since it opened in October 2014. Two retailers left because of companywide closures and the other four left for various reasons including low foot traffic.
Mall at UTC general manager Octavio Ortiz said three other stores are on the way and should be announced shortly.
