WEST BRADENTON -- The Winn-Dixie inside the Shoppes of Paradise Bay on Cortez Road is getting a fresh look.
Winn-Dixie will start to remodel its 7400 Cortez Road W. store soon, and remain open during construction, said Meredith Holland, spokeswoman for Winn-Dixie.
The store filed paperwork July 9 that it will begin its store remodel. WE Dentmon Construction is handling the remodel, according to a notice of commencement filed with the Manatee County Clerk.
Holland said it is too early to reveal details about the remodel, but work should be completed by the end of the year.
The company, owned by Jacksonville-based Bi-Lo Holdings, acquired and remodeled several Sweetbay stores in the area this year keeping the layout relatively similar to the existing Sweetbays. That included the former Sweetbay at 2401 Cortez Road.
Winn-Dixie remodeled its Fruitville Road store in 2012, spending $5.6 million to update its colors, expand its deli, made-to-order meals and organic offerings, added self check-outs and expanded beer, wine and cheese sections.
The organic sections were integrated within the product aisles after the re-do, desegregating the healthful offerings.
The renovations also included building a WiFi coffee cafe at the front of the store where shoppers can work on their laptops. So far, that Sarasota store is the only one to receive such treatment. The West Bradenton store could be next.
