UNIVERSITY PARK -- The first Designer Shoe Warehouse in the Bradenton-Sarasota market hopes to attract confirmed shoe lovers during its opening next week.
The new DSW store will debut its nearly 16,000-square-foot space Thursday, according to April Campbell, store manager. The store will stock 24,000 pairs of shoes.
The company chose its location at 151 N. Cattlemen Road, just west of the newly opened Mall at University Town Center and adjacent to a Sports Authority, because the area met its demographic requirements, said Christina Cheng, senior director of investor relations for DSW Inc., based in Columbus, Ohio.
"We're very picky with centers we like to be in," said Cheng, noting the company offers an assortment of women's and men's shoes, and looks for the consumer lifestyle that supports such a wide variety of merchandise.
"We always look for locations where there's a nice group of families that fit our demographic," she added.
Inside the gleaming interior Wednesday were long rows of racks, but the shoes were not yet in evidence.
Workmen were putting finishing touches on the store and checking to ensure its computer system operated correctly.
Among the footwear brands the store carries are Gucci, Vince Camuto, BCBG, Converse and Yellow Box, which makes dressy sandals embellished with bling, she said.
Construction costs were estimated at about $200,000, the Herald has previously reported.
The company operates more than 400 stores nationwide, including those in the Port Charlotte Town Center, Tyrone Square, St. Petersburg, and at Westfield Brandon, near Tampa.
The store will be open 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday-Saturday and from 11 a.m.- 7 p.m. Sunday, said Cheng.
