Deborah Gerard of Premier Designs Jewelry has been named executive director of SWAT Networking-Successful Women Aligning Together. Gerard has been a member of SWAT since November 2011 and brings many years of organizational skills and corporate training to the position. SWAT Networking has chapters in Manatee and Sarasota counties and plans to open in Pinellas County this year.
Rebecca Samler, broker/owner of Coastline West Realty of Florida, has been named a 2015 five-star best in client satisfaction real estate agent, by Sarasota Magazine.
Dr. Jennifer Leigh has joined Gastroenterology Associates of Manatee LLC. In addition to obtaining a medical degree from the University of South Florida, Leigh also studies tropical and infectious diseases and earned a master's degree in public health.
Daniel "Dan" Bridinger has joined Willis A. Smith Construction Co. as new assistant director of accounting. Bridinger has 17 years of experience in construction accounting, and will primarily handle the firm's general accounting in addition to assisting the director of accounting. He graduated from The Ohio State University earning a bachelor's degree in business administration with a double major in accounting and finance. He moved to Florida in 2012 to be closer to family.

Paul Hoffman, president of Sarasota-based SouthTech, will be a panelist at a Suncoast Technology Forum luncheon Jan. 15. The luncheon topic is "Digital Transformation -- Emerging Technologies for 2015." The panelists will discuss how they are using emerging technologies in their businesses.
Jonathan Fleece, managing partner of Blalock Walters, has been elected 2015 chairman of the Manatee Chamber of Commerce Board. A member of the Chamber's board since 2010, he is former chairman of Chamber Health Care Committee, and
former vice chairman of community development and communication, Fleece plans to emphasize five leadership initiatives that support the mission of building a positive business environment while enhancing the community's quality of life: education and workforce development, technology, workforce housing, and member engagement.
The Bradenton Area Economic Development Corp. has named Mark Barnebey, principal at Blalock Walters, P.A., chairman of the 2015 board of directors. Barnebey has been instrumental in the EDC's growth and its independence from the Manatee Chamber of Commerce, becoming its own not-for-profit corporation in 2012. Barnebey has served on the EDC executive committee as secretary, and chairman-elect. As chairman, Barnebey will oversee the corporation's strategy of bringing greater diversity to the Bradenton Area's economy and aligning the community's assets with business sectors in Manatee County.
Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine assistant professor of physiology Dr. Santiago Lorenzo co-authored the article: "Hot Environments Decrease Exercise Capacity While Elevating Multiple Neurotransmitters Independent of Humidity." The article was published in SCITEPRESS, Science and Technology Publications.
