Suzanne McCormick has been named president and chief executive officer of United Way Suncoast. McCormick comes from United Way of Greater Portland, Maine. Her 13-year career with United Way of Greater Portland included a variety of roles before she became CEO there. In addition to her United Way experience, McCormick served as CEO for the American Red Cross of Southern Maine and the People's Regional Opportunity Program. McCormick began her public-service career shortly after graduating from Duke University with a bachelor's degree in political science, serving two years in Thailand via the Peace Corps.
Luke Nicholas of Kerkering Barberio Financial Services Inc. has been promoted to research analyst. He also has passed Level I of the chartered financial analyst exam. The CFA designation is a qualification for finance and investment professionals, particularly in the fields of investment management and financial analysis of stocks, bonds and derivative assets. The program focuses on portfolio management and financial analysis, and provides a general knowledge of other areas of finance.
United Way 2-1-1 of Manasota Inc. has elected officers and board members for the coming year. The new officers for the 2014-2015 year are: Marc Lazarus, chairman; Dan Vigne, vice chairman; Pauline Tracy, secretary; and Don Hermey, treasurer. Other board members are: Bronwyn Beightol, Katie Knight and Bob Stuckey. Barbara King serves as United Way's south Sarasota County liaison.
Linda Tenore Singer has joined the Bradenton office of RE/MAX Alliance Group. A New Jersey native, Singer has been a Florida resident most of her life and a Manatee County resident for 16 years. Singer is a board member of the Women's Resource Center of Manatee County and committee chairwoman of the organization's resale boutique. She is a member of the Manatee County Women's Council of Realtors.
William W. Merrill III, a senior shareholder at Icard, Merrill, Cullis, Timm, Furen & Ginsburg, P.A., has been named the 2014 "Lawyer of the Year" for administrative/regulatory law in the Tampa area -- including Sarasota and Bradenton -- by The Best Lawyers in America.
