MANATEE — Gas prices continued to slide last week with motorists finding gasoline at or below $3.20 in metro markets such as Bradenton Orlando and Tampa.
"Motorists are reaping the benefits of booming domestic oil production, which has provided the cheapest gas prices for August in years," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA - The Auto Club Group. "The price of oil declined slightly last week, so gas prices could slip even more this week."
The lowest-priced gallon of gas in Manatee County could be found in Bradenton, which was listed at $3.15 at Circle K, 6410 State Road 64 E. and Kay Road; 7-Eleven, 4227 S.R. 64 E. and 43rd Street East; Mobil, 4905 S.R. 64 E. and 48th Street Court East; CITGO, 575 66th St. Court E. and S.R. 64 East; RaceTrac, 6319 S.R. 64 E. and Kay Road; Thorntons, 4858 S. R. 64 E. and 48th Street Court East; and Thorntons, 4850 S.R. 64 E. and 48th Street Court East.
The highest price listed in Manatee Country was $3.69 at Mobil, 430 Gulf Of Mexico Drive and Channel Lane in Longboat Key
Tensions between Russia and Ukraine, and the situation in Libya also remain front of mind for many, although none of these occurrences have disrupted oil supplies.
Ultimately, despite these geopolitical headlines and because of increased domestic production, oil prices continue to trade near multi-month lows. The price of West Texas Intermediate settled at $97.35 per barrel at the close of formal trading Friday, which is 30 cents lower than the week before.
