MANATEE -- Tennessee-based Brookdale Senior Living will be taking over two Bradenton senior communities as part of a national deal with Emeritus Senior Living.
Brookdale and Seattle-based Emeritus closed on a $2.8 billion merger Thursday after a deal was announced in February for the two giants to form a national senior living community company.
Brookdale will now be in control of Emeritus at College Park, 5612 26th St. W., and Emeritus at Bradenton, 450 67th St. W. That adds to the facilities Brookdale already manages in Bradenton, including Care Bridge, 6101 Pointe West Blvd., and Freedom Village, 6406 21st Ave. W.
"We are at a transformational point in the history of the company. With this merger, we will improve our ability to deliver the best, high quality solutions for the growing demographic of aging seniors and their families," Brookdale Chief Executive Officer Andy Smith said in a news release.
"Our newly combined company will have incredible size and scale in our industry. We will begin to leverage this scale to build a national Brookdale brand, create new efficiencies in our operating platform, and drive new innovations to serve our residents."
As part of the deal, Granger Cobb, Emeritus president and CEO, was appointed to the Brookdale Board.
The combined company will have more than 1,100 communities in 46 states. The two companies had a combined revenue of $4.9 billion in 2013, according to an investor presentation.
