Sunglass Hut latest addition for Mall at UTC
UNIVERSITY PARK -- Shoppers won't be at a loss for shades inside the Mall at University Town Center.
Sunglass Hut will bring a 750-square-foot store to the mall in the center court between Godiva and Brighton Collectibles. The store applied for a building permit Tuesday.
Sunglass Hut is a mall staple, having locations in all of the Bradenton and Sarasota malls plus St. Armands Circle. The company started in 1971 and is part of the Italian Luxottica Group, which owns LensCrafters, Pearle Vision, Ray-Ban and Oakley.
Never miss a local story.
Sunglass Hut will join other eyewear stores See Optical, Solstice Sunglasses, Edward Beiner and sister company LensCrafters. The two-level, 880,000-square-foot Mall at UTC is set to open Oct. 16 off of Cattlemen Road and University Parkway.
Sarasota Architect to advise Finland project
SARASOTA -- A two-story nursing home project in Helsinki, Finland will benefit from the sustainable design expertise of a Sarasota architect.
A church parish is being converted into a skilled nursing facility, Paloheinan Hoivakoti.
According to Antti-Juhani Lehti, the project's development adviser, the site is located on a designated brownfield.
As sustainability consultant, Michael Carlson Studio Architecture will guide the owner, developer, contractor and design team as they identify, analyze, design and integrate green building strategies.
The Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design New Construction rating system will inform the process.
The team toured several area facilities with Carlson earlier this year.
Paloheinan Hoivakoti will become a 34-bed, 18,000-square-foot nursing home. Haroma & Partners, the Helsinki architects for the project, anticipate it will be completed in June.
