UNIVERSITY PARK -- HomeGoods, a discount retailer of home decor, is planned for the Shoppes at University Town Center, according to an application filed with Manatee County.
The store will move into a 13,000-square-foot-space formerly occupied by Bealls Outlet at 8441 Cooper Creek Blvd. If approved by Manatee County, an additional 8,600 square feet will be built to enlarge the store. The new HomeGoods will be similar in size to the chain's other stores, which average about 25,000 square feet.
The project is under review by the county and should have no problems earning approval, said county planner Miles Gentry.
"It's pretty straightforward. There's no significant impacts," he said. "We expect a quick approval."

The Massachusetts-based chain touts an ever-changing inventory of 35,000 items all on sale for 20 per
cent to 60 percent less than department store prices. The TJX Companies Inc, HomeGoods' parent company, also owns sister discount stores T.J. Maxx and Marshalls.
Philip Tracey, a TJX spokesman, said the company would not comment on the new HomeGoods "for competitive reasons."
HomeGoods operates one other Sarasota location inside the Village Plaza Shopping Center on Bee Ridge Road and more than 400 stores nationwide.
