UNIVERSITY PARK -- Yankee Candle will bring its smorgasbord of smells to the new Mall at University Town Center.
Yankee Candle has committed to coming to the two-level, high-end mall after filing a building permit application Thursday. The 43-year-old company, based in South Deerfield, Mass., is owned by the Jaden Corp., which owns such brands as Crock-Pot, Oster, Rawlings and Mr. Coffee.
The company is known for candles that smell of just about anything from pine to Peeps. While appealing mainly to women, Yankee Candle also has a line of "Man Candles" that smell of draft beer, rich oak tree, woods and musk, freshly cut grass and hickory smoked bacon.
Yankee Candle has nearly 50 locations in Florida, including an outlet at the Ellenton Premium Outlets and a mall location at the Westfield Sarasota Square Mall.
Meanwhile, clothing and shoe store Journeys and women's store Bebe are soliciting construction bids for a location inside the mall. Journeys, a Nashville-based company, appeals to mainly teenagers and young adults for shoes and apparel. A Journeys location at International Plaza in Tampa also has a Journeys Kidz store. International Plaza and Mall at UTC are both leased by Taubman Centers.
Bebe was founded in 1976 in San Francisco, focusing on chic women's clothing. Bebe has 25 Florida locations, also with one at International Plaza.
Also, Vera Bradley filed Thursday for a building ap
plication. The Herald previously reported the handbag store's commitment to the mall as it is also hiring for management.
Anchors Macy's, Dillard's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Crate & Barrel, H&M, Apple and more than 100 stores and restaurants will fill out the shopping center on the corner of Cattlemen Road and University Parkway. The 880,000 square-foot mall is expected to open Oct. 16.
