MANATEE -- Unemployment continues to improve in Manatee County, with the latest numbers showing both a significant drop from the previous month and year.
About 5.2 percent of Manatee County job seekers said they were still looking for a job in April, down from 6.1 percent in March and from 6.6 percent in April 2013, according to job numbers released Friday by CareerSource Suncoast.
Out of a labor force of 322,066, 16,035 were unemployed in the Manatee-Sarasota region, according to CareerSource.
The Bradenton-Sarasota-North Port area had the second strongest annual job growth in trade, transportation and utilities in the state, tied with the Palm Coast region and behind Naples-Marco Island.
Nonagricultural employment in Bradenton-Sarasota-North Port rose 4.3 percent in April compared to a year ago and the metro area gained 11,000 jobs year-over-year, led by professional and business services.
The state's unemployment also improved to 5.7 percent, down from 7.1 percent a year ago, and down from 6.4 percent in March.
Sarasota County unemployment stood at 5.3 percent, down from 6 percent in March and 7 percent in April.
