UNIVERSITY PARK -- The Mall at University Town Center will not be at a loss for home decor stores when it opens this fall.
Z Gallerie is the latest furniture store to commit to the 880,000-square-foot mall after filing its building application Thursday.
The store is known for furniture featuring artistic patterns, as well as offering art, decor, tableware and bedding.
Z Gallerie started in 1979 when siblings Joe Zeiden, Mike Zeiden and Carole Malfatti opened a poster shop in Sherman Oaks, Calif. Today, the company has more than 57 stores and is headquartered in Los Angeles. The UTC store would become Z's ninth Florida location, with the closest at International Plaza in Tampa.
The mall, expected to open Oct. 16, will offer several choices for home decor and homegoods when opened, including Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma and to a lesser extent, Anthropologie. They will face competition from Ethan Allen across from the mall as well as Pier 1 Imports and Kirklands inside the Shoppes at University Town Center on Cooper Creek Boulevard.
When open, the two-level upscale mall will include Dillard's, Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue as well as more than 100 stores plus six full-service restaurants in addition to a restaurant inside Saks. The project is a joint venture between Taubman Centers of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Benderson Development Co., of University Park.
