LAKEWOOD RANCH -- When an eye care center opens in mid-May, Lakewood Ranch Main Street will achieve 100 percent occupancy for the first time.
InFocus Family Eyecare, a full service eye center offering comprehensive exams and eyewear, will fill the last empty space at 8120 Main St., Suite 101, once occupied by America's Best Martial Arts.
Optometrist Brad Masuga said he was drawn to Main Street for its location and abundance of tenants.
"It's just a great little location that's happening and hip, the place to be," he said.
Never miss a local story.
Masuga, 34, has been an optometrist at a Lenscrafters in Sarasota for six years. Originally from Michigan, he earned his doctorate of optometry from Ferris State
University and completed his residency at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami with his wife, Ashley Masuga, an optometrist at the Eye Center in Bradenton.
InFocus, Brad Masuga's first practice, will offer eye exams, designer glasses, frames and contacts as well as treatment for eye diseases such as dry eye, glaucoma and macular degeneration.
"We're going to be catering to families from kids to 90 years old and above. It's going to be for everyone," he said.
InFocus Family Eyecare will tentatively open May 15.
Julia DeCastro, director of leasing at Lakewood Ranch Commercial Realty, said the Mall at University Town Center, set to open in October, helped fill Main Street.
"I think retail seeks retail, and we had a few tenants come to Main Street because they think that once the mall opens the traffic is going to be so cumbersome that people will shop here," she said.
Maria Rosabal, owner of Healthy Living Organic and Natural Market, which opened this fall, said maximum occupancy helps bring new customers to her store. Rosabal is excited about the new apartments being built across the street on Lakewood Ranch Boulevard as they are poised to bring even more new business.
"We're within walking distance. That's the best you can get," she said. "You walk, you get your groceries and you come back."
Main Street, which opened in 2005, now has more than 60 tenants, merchants and restaurants.
