BRADENTON -- Suncoast Community Capital, a nonprofit organization serving Manatee and Sarasota counties, is offering a free six-week Small Business Development Program starting in April for those interested in starting a business.
Orientation will be at 6 p.m. April 17. Classes will meet Thursdays, April 24, May 1, May 8, May 15, May 22 and May 29.
Funded in part by the Manatee County Community Development Block Grant program, this is the second in a series of five six-week sessions to be offered in Manatee County. Classes are at the Manatee Office Center, 302 Manatee Ave. E., Bradenton, in Suites 307 and 308.
Session titles include, setting personal goals; planning your business; marketing your business; financials and operating your business.
The instructors also offer one-on-one counseling sessions to the students.

Business development training offered
SARASOTA -- Certified business counselors from the Small Business Development Center at USF Sarasota-Manatee and local business experts are presenting business planning classes including market strategies, competitive analysis, financial issues and operations and management plans.
An introduction to CEO Business Development Training will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. April 1 at the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, 1845 34th St., Sarasota. The program is free and open to the public, sponsored by Comerica Bank and SunTrust Bank.
The 11-week course focuses on the basics for new and aspiring small business owners. Through a combination of classroom training and mentoring, participants will have an opportunity to assess their business acumen and determine the strength of their business concept.
Attendance at the first two classes is required. While the course is free, attendance and participation are mandatory.

Taylor Morrison to host Parrish grand opening
PARRISH -- Taylor Morrison will celebrate the grand opening of Esplanade at Artisan Lakes with a backyard barbecue from noon until 3 p.m. Saturday.
The family friendly event will feature food, refreshments and music as well as arts and crafts activities for kids and adults. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour fully furnished model homes. Giveaways will be offered throughout the day with the chance to win a new car.
Esplanade at Artisan Lakes is on 800 acres.
Phase One of development is proposed to include a 6,000-square-foot amenity center with a lagoon-style swimming pool and adjacent fire pit, tot lot and dog park.
Manatee Chamber, NetWeave partner on social media
BRADENTON -- The Manatee Chamber of Commerce is partnering with NetWeave Social Networking to improve its social media presence and impact.
The Manatee Chamber's Facebook Page will be just one focus of the new initiative. LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube will also be a focus.
NetWeave is tasked with helping to bring the Chamber's social media efforts to the next level.
NetWeave CEO Kevin McNulty, said the chamber's success "is directly related to its ability to connect with its members, and social media is the perfect tool for that."
