SARASOTA -- A portion of all sales from the six Tampa Bay Area PDQ locations on Sunday will go towards raising funds for a woman in need of a liver transplant.
The woman, Demetra Bell Jones, was 23 when her father, Tampa Police Detective Randy Bell, was shot and killed in the line of duty along with Detective Ricky Childers and Trooper James Crooks.
Although family members have already successfully raised over $60,000 through family, friends from the Tampa Police Department, and even complete strangers on the Gofundme page (http://www.gofundme.com/5zk9fg) on her behalf, fund-raising efforts continue because Jones, 39, will require extensive post-surgical care and costly drugs for life. In addition to donating online, donors may also send checks payable to "Demetra Bell Jones Trust" to the Bank of Tampa, P.O. Box One, Tampa, FL 33601.
Jones and her family are desperately raising funds for the surgery. She needs $300,000. Her liver is declining and she needs the funds up front to begin the process of the liver transplant. The Jones family has partnered with PDQ to further the fundraising efforts. The Sarasota PDQ, 5164 S. Tamiami Trail, is part of the effort.
