Suncoast Community receives $50,000 investment for career program
MANATEE COUNTY -- CareerEdge Funders Collaborative has invested $50,000 in Suncoast Community Capital to manage one of CareerEdge's Bridges to Careers job readiness training programs for job seekers in Manatee County.
CareerEdge launched Bridges to Careers in April 2011 and Suncoast Community Capital began to facilitate one of the programs in January 2013.
The program consists of an intensive four-week soft skills training aimed at helping people who are unemployed or underemployed obtain full-time employment or full-time schooling. The program includes: the Florida Ready to Work credential, several certificates from State College of Florida for Microsoft computer classes and classes on how to be successful in your place of work. Each student will receive personal financial management classes, a customized career pathway plan, interview preparation skills, help to build a resume, support from an Academic/Career Coach and mentors.
Bridges is seeking candidates for the next training which will begin Feb. 24 in Bradenton. Bridges is in need of volunteer mentors and is looking for local employers to partner with. For information call SCC at 941-744-2666, ext. 2.
Housing sales heat up in Palmetto community
PALMETTO -- One of Neal Communities' newest neighborhoods, Sugar Mill Lakes in Palmetto, has seen 25 home sales since its grand opening in August.
The average sales price is $234,000 in the community.
There are nine feature homes under construction at Sugar Mill Lakes -- all priced for less than $250,000.
Sugar Mill Lakes is at 4539 28th Ave E, Palmetto. Community amenities include a family recreation center, a children's playground, and tennis courts. Homes range in size from 1,569 to 2,233 square feet.
Motorworks hosts networking session
BRADENTON -- Manatee Young Professionals will offer a networking social from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the new Motorworks Brewing in downtown Bradenton.
All area young professionals are invited to mingle with MYP members and guests at the brewery, 1014 Ninth St. W. Admission is free for paid MYP members and $5 for all others.
Merchants offer bluegrass on Bridge Street
BRADENTON BEACH -- The Bridge Street Merchants are hosting an evening of Bluegrass Feb. 22 on Historic Bridge Street in Bradenton Beach.
Entrance is free to the public .The event will take place adjacent to Fish Hole Adventure Golf. William Brusso will kick off the evening playing music. Then the band, State Road 64, will be play from 7 to 10 p.m.
Parking is available at the three piers area just south of Bridge Street but organizers suggest taking advantage of the free island trolley which runs until 10:30 p.m.
