PALMETTO -- A global company with local headquarters is continuing its expansion as it partners with the county to bring in as many as 10,000 agents from around the world to Palmetto for a "bootcamp" training program.
It Works! Global's expansion is visible from the river front as the company expands the Riverside Plaza, 980 Riverside Dr., into a space for its headquarters. The company is even adding another floor to the three story building to accommodate 78 new employees it plans to hire in the next two years, said Christopher Brandt, the company's director of special projects. The company, which moved here in 2011, currently employs 75, he said.
The company, which sells health and beauty products, is partnering with the Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau to bring thousands of company representatives for sales and marketing "boot camps."
The company will be holding training sessions here in April, July and October, officials said.
Never miss a local story.
The company expects 3,000 to 4,000 agents to attend the three day training sessions, said Elliott Falcione, the convention bureau's executive director.
The arrangement OK'd unanimously Tuesday by the Manatee County Commission called for the convention bureau to pick up the cost of the facility, and the company to pay for all third-party related expenses, including food and beverages.
The county's cost for all three boot camps is about $22,950, said Kelly Klotz, communications director.
About 80 percent of agents expected to attend are women, a demographic that fits the convention bureau's target market, said Falcione.
"Women choose where their family goes on vacation," he explained. "We believe they will come back on vacation and maybe move
The company's previous boot camps have been held in various locales, such as Seattle, Atlanta and Dallas, said Brandt. "We will have an opportunity to have people come to this area to find out what we already know," he told the commission. "This is an incredible place."
