BRADENTON -- Have a hankering for Jose's Cuban Food at lunchtime, but you work too far away to get to the Cortez Road restaurant made famous by Guy Fieri?
Then there's good news for you if you work downtown.
Jose Baserva, who brought his authentic Cuban recipes to Manatee County, is expanding.
He opened a takeout and delivery space at 1800 14th St. W. and will be taking orders and payments online for delivery at www.josescubanfood.com.
Never miss a local story.
That's right, there's no need to settle for a less than stellar Cuban sandwich if you're stuck downtown at lunch time. And there's always black beans and rice on the stove.
And if you want a meal to take home after work, Baserva is cooking his boliche, picadillo and paella featured on "Diners, Drive-In and Dives," the Food Network show Fieri hosts.
The official grand opening for Jose's downtown restaurant is Wednesday, but those in the know began ordering take-out on Monday. Baserva was in the kitchen serving up his Cuban fare shortly after hinting at his new takeout location on Facebook.
The downtown restaurant will be open 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday. The phone number at the new location is 941-742-3933 or you can fax orders to 941-745-8081.
Baserva will have three people on staff, cooking and delivering, at the new location and will add staff if demand warrants. Baserva promises the same menu from his restaurant on Cortez Road. He has a full kitchen at the new location.
Baserva said he hopes to capture the attention of hungry workers downtown.
"I'm going after the downtown businesses," he said. "The courthouse, the police and the county workers. The people who work downtown are computer savvy and they don't have a lot of time for lunch."
