Hit and run crash injures bicyclist
MANATEE -- A driver left the scene of an accident with a bicyclist Thursday, leaving the bicyclist in serious condition.
The hit and run accident occurred at 2:25 p.m. Thursday at U.S. 301 and Ninth Street East, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The 19-year-old bicyclist was crossing U.S. 301 when an unknown vehicle traveling east struck him, the report states.
The driver exited her vehicle and told the in-jured bicyclist that shewas going to pull off the road and help, but, instead, she drove away, the report states.
Her vehicle was described as a light green or gray two-door midsize vehicle with a visible dent on the passenger side door.
The driver was described as a female in her mid-20s with brownish shoulder length hair and a large tattoo on her left shoulder, the report states.
Anyone who may have seen the crash or has any knowledge as to the identity of the hit and run driver is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 239-938-1800 and ask for Trooper Fitzpatrick, a crash investigator.
Boy slightly injuredin school bus mishap
MANATEE -- A 5-year-old boy was slightly injured Friday afternoon when he fell against the wheel of a school bus after he was dropped off after school.
The school bus was stopped southbound just south of 15th Avenue East at about 5 p.m. to allow students off the bus, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The boy student exited among the crowd and met his father who was waiting for him right by the side of the road.
With its passengers unloaded, the school bus began to pull forward, the report states.
Meanwhile, the boy jumped onto his father's back, which caused both of them to fall backwards, the report states.
The child's back struck the right rear tire of the school bus, causing minor scrapes, according to the report.
The child was not taken to the hospital, the report concludes.
