PALMETTO — Port Manatee will receive a $9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The grant will allow Port Manatee to improve its ability to handle cargo from the M-10 Marine Highway, which connects the Palmetto facility to the Port of Brownsville in Texas.
The U.S. Department of Transportation notified Congress on Friday that it intends to award the grant to Port Manatee under its Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery Discretionary program.
Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., announced the news today.

“This is one important step that should help Port Manatee increase ship traffic and cargo, which could lead to new jobs for the region,” Nelson said in a news release.
